Blitz Baby Blitz!

By hiedi October 29th, 2009, under Hiedi's Goodies

The Keep Movin’ two week Blitz has been a real Abilene Adventure!

We began with a run at Red Bud Park — Of course you don’t just run in Fit Camp!  We teamed up and began our Amazing Race!  Here we are digging for our numbers along the route and picnic table planks.

We conquered the football field, including the bleachers, at McMurry University.  Impressed with their fabulous, plush Astroturf!  We could have planked forever on that stuff!  Oh wait, we did!

The Abilene High School gym floor got a thorough scrubbing with our bottoms!  We lunged, squatted, planked, pushed-up, crunched and scooted across the shiny hardwood.

My favorite workout was the one at the Hendrick Home for Children.  We worked out in the sparkling-clean horse barn!  Oh yeah!  And here are the pictures to prove it!  The horses were so gentle and very curious!  One of the horses played practical jokes by walking up behind unsuspecting Blitzers.  Boy!  Were they surprised!  We barrowed the horse’s barrels for the ‘Human Barrel Races’ ala Kris. 10624_1052603371360_1714051087_112760_8028906_s10624_1052603891373_1714051087_112773_5539139_s

We met at Nelson Park in front of the Zoo and ran intervals in the icy cold.  We ‘did’ the Air Traffic Control Tower at Dyess and finished the Blitz at the Wylie High School football field.

We impressed them at Hardrock Boxing and Fitness!  They were so kind to offer their locker room and give us 10 second breaks.  But Fit Camp comes prepared to Rock ’n Roll from word GO!

We’ll never look at Wal-Mart the same.  See below.  ‘Nuff said!

Don’t be so quick to get “Bent out of Shape” — Embrace the innocence!

By hiedi October 15th, 2009, under Hiedi's Goodies

Brandy Parris writes:  I wake up at 3:00am every weekday to get ready for Fit Camp. I normally leave the house at 3:25am, but on this particular day… I didn’t.

My dreams are very busy on this restless night. I am dreaming about horns honking; Lots and lots of honking. When I finally wake up at 6:45am, I find myself feeling very confused as I look at the clock. I think to myself, “Is this Saturday?” Then I realize that I have slept through my alarm and missed Fit Camp and will soon be late for work.

I jump out of bed and scramble to get ready (you all know what I’m talking about). It was then that I heard the “honking” again. I stood there silently thinking, “Am I still asleep”… then I hear the horn again. I can tell it is coming from outside so I go to the window and look out to see my neighbor boy standing in my driveway pointing his Air Horn at my house just blasting away. See, this teenage boy has Down syndrome. He is a sweet kid but I have had problems with him in the past firing bottle rockets at my house in the wee hours of the morning. I am suddenly infuriated. I finish getting ready (he continues to blow that horn) and I walk out of the house to leave for work.

As I am coming down the steps, he said, “Hey!”

I said, “Hi Brandon.”

Brandon – “It’s about time you woke up.”

Me – “I know.”

Brandon – “You’re late.”

I laughed and told him I knew I was late.

Brandon – “I went back in the house at 4:00 to get this horn to wake you up so you wouldn’t get in trouble for being late. Are you gunna get in trouble?”

My heart just nearly stopped! I seriously thought I might start crying. I just said, “Thank you Brandon ! That was very sweet. I guess I was super tired this morning. And no, I’m not going to get in trouble.”

See, Brandon is a very observant young man and everyday when I am getting home from Fit Camp, he is outside in the dark with his dog listening to his I-Pod and dancing and singing, so I guess when he saw my car there at 0400, he knew I should have been gone during that time.

So, in the future, I will not be so quick to get “Bent out of Shape”. His horn blowing was so innocent and touching on this particular morning!

Just Another Manic Monday

By hiedi October 14th, 2009, under Words From Chief Goldie (a.k.a. "Big Sexy")

Happy Columbus Day Dark Side!  Wow, we got to go to the gym in the daylight today, what a treat.  Of course, they kept the track totally dark so as not to hurt our sensitive 4AM eyes.  The flash photography helped.  Was Skinny G styling today or what!  You can’t were a leisure suit to fit camp Skinny G, that’s for Abilene Disco High!  Checkout the new pictures on the bulletin board too, good times.  There is info about the run/walk this weekend too, it’s a really good one in which participate.

The Spin class was tough today, the planks were tougher. First time in my life I begged for Wall Sits.  Show me “Sit the Wall!”  Are elbow planks harder or easier than pushup position planks?  I think elbow planks are easier on the shoulders, but harder and more beneficial on the core.   It was a really great circuit type workout, total core strengthening.  What a way to celebrate Columbus Day.  In 1492, Columbus sailed the Ocean blue.  I am thinking, if fit camp was held on the Santa Maria, we’d have been rowing the Ocean Blue … Ramming Speed!  We’d have ended up in Narnia, not the West indies.  Row 100 knots, then walk the Plank.  No, Plank on the Plank then Wall Sit on the mizzen mast.  What the hell is a mizzen mast, who cares!

I am cutting this one short, heading to another Spin class, went to football frenzy on base yesterday, too many Hot Wings … In the Hot TUB … HAAAAYYYYY!!!  The Spin-miester Aaron B. will be there in Spin too, and I bailed on him twice last week, something about physical exhaustion was limiting my Zen for Spin.  The fit camp Lifer is inspiring me this camp, he definitely took it to the next level…most impressive .  So many of you are making excellent progress this camp, dropping pounds the healthy way and the healthy weigh and seriously getting stronger.  Keep it up, and keep moving!  Enjoy the holiday, and if you are working today, or are in school, drop and give me 25 anyway!  Oh no he didn’t!

End of Camp Stats

cute,funny,kids,black,and,white,cute,and,fun,curiousity-fdbac499cbe51ead3b68d860aa54b775_hTime for the End of Camp Weigh Ins!  Here are a few of Hiedi’s Helpful Hints to make it easier:

1. Polish your toenails so that they look cute on the scale.  They may be the only cute thing on the scale!

1.5 Better yet, get a pedicure!

2. Wear clean socks.  Not the ones you’ve gone out to check the mail in!

4. Be sure to bring your journal and document!

5. Drink plenty of water in the days beforehand.  You’ll be sure to have something that ‘improved’!

6. Wear your capris or shorts, not the long woolen pants that weigh 6 pounds!

7.  Go potty first!

8. Remove all of your jewelry and make-up.  Hey, it all adds up and the Iron Man counts ounces!

9. Remember; How will you know how far you’ve come if you don’t take that step?

I Got Knocked Down But I Got Up Again!

By hiedi October 9th, 2009, under Hiedi's Goodies

We were running to the front gate Wednesday.  Yeah, I said running!  As most of you know, this girl don’t run!  But I was feelin’ it!  Pushin’ it!  Runnin’ it!  Then BAM!  I fell hard.  That’s what I get for trying to pass through the grass.  Show-off!!

Safety Tip:  Always make sure your feet land firmly on an even surface.

I cried like a baby and when I looked up there were so many faces above me.  I didn’t know how badly my leg hurt because I was literally picked up off the ground!  It swelled up immediately so I took a trip the ER.  Triage thought it was broken so I got right in.  The x-ray didn’t show any broken bones – Although I had prepared myself for a PINK cast!SNV10022

Sure I came back to Fit Camp the next day!  I had a Warrior Wound to parade!  The way I see it, you’re not living your life if you never need a band-aid or an occasional trip to the ER!

I found a perfect white strawberry flower in my strawberries today!  May you have that kind of day, full of pleasant surprises!
